Governance

The basic strength of the Canadian Health Care system is the ability to provide health services that meet the needs of the community. Community hospitals have the ability to grow or adapt to the requirements of the population that they serve.

The role of the Board is to guide the evolution of the health care facility in meeting those community needs. This requires special skill and knowledge.

The purpose of the Alliance is to develop and operate PGH, SJH, and SDH as a unified system of health services. Three separate legal operating corporations continue to exist in accordance with the Public Hospitals Act. Each of the three hospitals in the Alliance is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who represent and are accountable to the community.

The Boards of Directors are elected by the Members of their respective Corporations. Public General Hospital and Sydenham District Hospital have open memberships and individuals may apply to become a Member of the Corporation by completing a Membership Application form and submitting it to the office of the President & CEO, in accordance with the corporation by-laws.
