Board Highlights
April 30, 2008

At last night’s meeting of the Tri-Board of St. Joseph’s, Public General and Sydenham District Hospitals, Directors:

  • Heard a presentation, Ethics in the Health Care Organization, by consulting Ethicists, Dr. Robert Butcher. At the invitation of the Tri-Board’s Mission & Quality Committee, his presentation touched on clinical and organizational ethics.
  • Acknowledged that April 30, 2008 marks the 10th anniversary since the signing of the Alliance Agreement between St. Joseph’s, Public General and Sydenham District Hospitals. The original Alliance Agreement and achievements of its Alliance Key Indicators helped to shape the organization that CKHA has become. CKHA’s 10-year history will be acknowledged during the Tri-Board annual meeting in June.
  • Endorsed a policy recommended by the Tri-Board’s Mission & Quality Committee to guide required orientation, development and continuing education of Board volunteers over the course of their three-year term.
  • Noted that the Tri-Board will undertake its annual self-evaluation in May, using a tool developed by the Hay Group. External review of the Tri-Board’s effectiveness takes place every 5 years.
  • Noted that year-end financial statements are in preparation for presentation to the Tri-Board when the auditors have completed their review in May.
  • Acknowledged CKHA volunteers on the occasion of National Volunteer Week. Volunteers at CKHA number over 600 including in-service volunteers, auxilians, and hospital and foundation board volunteers who collectively contribute thousands of hours of time and talent.
  • Were updated on construction projects including the Central Ambulance Communications Centre in Wallaceburg, planned for occupancy in late spring; and in Diagnostic Imaging to accommodate the new MRI planned to be operational in early summer.
  • Noted the work of CKHA’s Emergency Planning Committee, most recently the development of the first evolution of the organizational pandemic plan. Next week marks National Emergency Preparedness Month during which CKHA will host informational displays to support staff readiness during emergencies at work and home.
  • Congratulated executive leadership team member, Sharon Pfaff, on her recent appointment to Deputy Chief Information Officer of Cancer Care Ontario.
  • Congratulated the Foundation of CKHA on ongoing progress towards achieving the goal of the Making the Right Investment – MRI Campaign with $922,000 raised to date.

The next Tri-Board meeting is May 27, 2008 beginning at 6:30 pm at the Municipal Service Centre in Wallaceburg. Kindly RSVP 519-437-6001.
