At last night’s meeting of the Tri-Board of St. Joseph’s, Public General and Sydenham District Hospitals, Directors:

  • Heard a presentation from Sheldon Parsons, Conrad Noel and Jeff Wesley representing the Wallaceburg community. The presentation included concerns for the future of the Emergency Department and continued hospital services in Wallaceburg. 
  • Noted that on behalf of the Tri-Board, the chairpersons have extended an invitation to Minister Caplan and Chief Gilbert of Walpole Island First Nations to discuss the Emergency Department Study.
  • Were updated by the Chief of Staff office on physician recruitment efforts in Chatham-Kent. In the past 12 months, the team has supported recruitment of 6 family physicians and 2 specialists in Chatham-Kent. The team unveiled its newly re-branded website, www.physicianswanted.com which features video interviews with local physicians, educational opportunities, current practice opportunities and information about Chatham-Kent.   • Acknowledged local physicians on the occasion of the 4th annual Doctor’s Day, including Dr. George Walker who has served the community of Chatham-Kent for the past 50 years.
  • Received financial statements for the eleven months ended February 28th noting a projected year end deficit of $3.4 million.
  • Received a report from its Mission & Quality committee noting low rates for
    C-Diff, MRSA and VRE. The Clean Hands, Caring Hearts campaign is underway emphasizing the importance of hand hygiene to staff, patients and visitors. CKHA’s hand hygiene compliance rate will be publicly posted beginning in April.
  • Noted the upcoming launch of CKHA’s Strategic Plan for 2009-11. Beginning April 28th, the plan will be posted on the Alliance’s website. Interested public are invited to provide input via an on-line survey. www.ckha.on.ca
  • Heard that CKHA will be recognized at the Annual General Meeting of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario on completing 3 years as a Best Practice Spotlight Candidate Organization. CKHA values the use and application of evidenced-based best practices and has witnessed the difference it makes in inter-professional practice and the provision of patient care.
  • Congratulated the Chatham Kent Home Builders Association on being named Corporate Citizen of the Year by the Chatham & District Chamber of Commerce acknowledging their home build. Proceeds from the home’s recent sale will support the MRI, Making the Right Investment campaign.

The next regularly scheduled Tri-Board meeting is April 28, 2009 beginning at 6:30 pm in the Education Centre at CKHA’s Chatham campus. Staff and public are welcomed - kindly RSVP 519-437-6001.
