Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Appoints New Chief of Staff from Within

CHATHAM-KENT: December 13, 2016 -- Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) Supervisor Rob Devitt is pleased to announce that Dr. Pervez Faruqi has been appointed to the position of Chief of Staff.  The appointment was made by the Supervisor following the recommendation of the Search and Selection Committee.
“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Pervez Faruqi as Chief of Staff for CKHA,” said Rob Devitt, Supervisor.  “Dr. Faruqi brings to the role significant leadership and professional experience and a strong desire to support quality of care, improved patient experiences and work with administration to strengthen the organization. His personal commitment to CKHA combined with his quiet resolve, process-orientation and dedication to a healthy workplace make him the right person for the position of Chief of Staff.”
Dr. Faruqi has been a consultant Paediatrician at CKHA since 2010 and has held the role of Chief of Paedetriacs since 2013. Prior to that he practiced medicine in Nova Scotia for five years at the Guysborough, Antigonish and Strait Health Authority (GASHA), where he chaired the Quality Review Committee. Before moving to Canada, Dr. Faruqi practiced medicine in the United States for seven years where in addition to several recognitions for teaching he won America’s Top Pediatrician, 2004-2005.
"It is indeed a great honour for me to be the next Chief of Staff,” said Dr. Pervez Faruqi. “CKHA is going through a major organizational transformation and I am proud to be part of this change. I look forward to working closely with the Senior Team and the Medical Advisory Committee. Together, we will work hard to build stronger ties with the community.”
Since 2010, Dr. Faruqi has also been an Adjunct Professor of Paediatrics at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to learning and education, including having been a lead preceptor and supervisor for both medical and nursing students.
Dr. Faruqi assumes the position for a three-year term on January 1, 2017. “My top priorities as Chief of Staff will be to improve the quality of medical care and patient experience at CKHA. I am truly grateful for this opportunity," added Faruqi.
With the support of the Medical Advisory Committee and Medical Staff Organization a complete restructuring of the Medical Staff model is currently underway, beginning with the Chief of Staff role. The new structure reflects a program management model where physician leaders hold both the position of Chief, reporting to the Chief of Staff, and Medical Director, reporting to the Vice President with responsibility for clinical program. This model requires physician leaders and hospital administrators to work collaboratively to support quality care and resource utilization within the programs.
“The support from the entire Medical Staff Organization for this change has been really exceptional. I firmly believe that an organization is best served by building its leadership talent from within and I am really pleased with the number and caliber of applicants we have received. The Chief of Staff is critical to the success of this renewal process and Dr. Faruqi is well suited to the task. He’s also an excellent example of the depth of leadership that exists within this organization,” concluded Devitt.
