Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is committed to life-long learning, recognizing that healthcare delivery is constantly evolving due to advancements in technology, innovative medications, and new care techniques. Preparing physicians, staff, and volunteers to excel in this dynamic environment is a key focus of CKHA’s educational strategy. Many continuing education and professional development courses are also available to individuals outside the hospital.
The courses offer a fully in-person experience, incorporating lectures, video segments, hands-on practice, and coaching led by a Heart & Stroke instructor or Healthcare Professional. Participants will have ample opportunity to apply their skills and receive feedback before undergoing evaluation.

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNC)
This course, taught by qualified nurses, prepares you with the knowledge, critical thinking skills and training needed to provide high-quality trauma nursing care. After completing this course, you will be able to properly assess patients and implement evidence-based interventions to improve outcomes for them.

Accurate assessment of a child with acute illness or injury requires special knowledge and skills. Here’s a glimpse into what you’ll learn from the qualified nurses who teach this course:

- Systematic assessment and application of care
- Education that can be applied to every pediatric patient you treat
CTAS is a tool that enables Emergency Departments to:
- Prioritize patient care requirements
- Examine patient care processes, workload, and resource requirements relative to case mix and community needs
The triage level assigned using the CTAS criteria is a mandatory data element to be used in all Canadian Hospital Emergency Departments for reporting to the Canadian Institute for Health Information.
CTAS allows ED nurses to:
- Triage patients according the type and severity of their presenting signs and symptoms
- Prioritizes patients when emergency department capacity has been exceeded
- Ensure that a patient’s need for care is reassessed while in the Emergency department
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
NRP is an educational program that introduces the concepts and skills of neonatal resuscitation. In Canada, NRP is administered by the Canadian Paediatric Society and is designed to teach individuals and teams who may be required to resuscitate newborn babies.
Fetal Health Surveillance (FHS)
Fetal health surveillance (FHS) is an interprofessional, evidence-informed, and accredited education program of FHS Canada for professions whose scope of practice include caring for women/people in the intrapartum period or who require antepartum non-stress tests. FHS Canada curriculum introduces key concepts in intrapartum and antenatal FHS.
