Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Receives Accreditation with Exemplary Standing
CHATHAM-KENT: November 28, 2022 – Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) has received designation from Accreditation Canada for “Accreditation with Exemplary Standing” for the period of 2022 to 2026. Exemplary standing is the highest possible designation for an accredited organization.
Accreditation Canada is a not-for-profit organization aligned with the International Society for Quality in Health Care. It provides healthcare organizations with an external peer review process to assess and improve their services based on standards of healthcare excellence. Accreditation is one of the best assurances to communities that its hospitals are achieving safety and quality. It is a voluntary process to assess and benchmark the quality of services with patient safety as the cornerstone of the accreditation process.
During the month of October, an Accreditation Canada team of surveyors evaluated hundreds of criteria at CKHA and spoke with patients, family members, staff, physicians, volunteers and partners to understand CKHA’s commitment to quality.
“CKHA embraces ongoing quality improvement and achieving Accreditation speaks volumes about our commitment to best practices, quality care and patient safety,” said Alan Wildeman, Board Chair, CKHA. “Over the past few years, the health system has faced numerous challenges and the dedication of our team has never wavered. On behalf of the board, I want to recognize our staff and physicians for their ongoing commitment to best practice care.”
“Receiving ‘Exemplary Standing’ affirms CKHA’s dedication to providing safe, high quality care in line with Canadian best practice guidelines,” said Lori Marshall, President and CEO, CKHA. “The Accreditation process helps healthcare organizations improve on various levels, including quality and safety, communication and collaboration, leading practices and accountability. I’m proud of our entire team for their outstanding work and dedication to the provision of best practice care.”
The Accreditation Canada website describes this designation as being awarded to “organizations that go beyond Accreditation Canada’s requirements and demonstrate excellence in quality improvement.”
