ICU / PCU

Core Programs

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a specialized area of the hospital dedicated to providing 24-hour monitoring and advanced life support for patients who are critically ill or severely injured. All patients are admitted under internal medicine. The ICU hosts Nurse Practitioners who specialize in the care of acutely ill patients. Patient care is provided by RNs with training in critical care, as well as in collaboration with Respiratory Therapists, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists, Dietitians and Social Workers.

Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) provides an intermediate level of care for patients who are stable enough to leave the ICU but still require advanced monitoring and highly focused medical attention before transitioning to a regular unit. All patients are admitted under internal medicine. The PCU hosts Nurse Practitioners that specialize in the care of acutely ill patients. Patient care is provided by RNs and RPNs with specialized training in critical care, as well as in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
