Core Laboratory – Hematology and Chemistry
The Core Laboratory (Hematology and Chemistry), at the Chatham Site is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by a dedicated team of nearly 50 Medical Laboratory Technologists and Medical Laboratory Assistants. This automated lab performs thousands of tests each day in hematology, coagulation, chemistry and immunochemistry. The Core Labs provide initial, rapid testing and screening for all the hospital service areas. The lab also works in partnership with other laboratories to provide complete investigational results to the clinicians.

Point-of-Care Testing
Point-of-Care Testing (POCT), also known as bedside or near-patient testing is performed throughout Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with both sites performing bedside Glucose Testing. Wallaceburg is a Point of Care Testing Laboratory which includes critical tests needed immediately for clinicians to make a diagnosis. All new devices must be approved by the POC Committee and validated prior to patient use.
Pathology
Pathology and Histology Services receive upwards of 11,000 cases per year and use various techniques, including tissue processing, staining and microscopic analysis along with other relevant laboratory tests, to identify abnormalities and aid in treatment decisions. Histology Staff ensure correct identification and expert processing of all specimens and support the pathologist team in their goal of accurate and timely results for the patient and clinician.
